HP Victus 15 Reviews 2023: Affordable Gaming Laptop

HP Victus 15 Reviews 2022: Affordable Gaming Laptop. In the previous year, HP unveiled Victus, a new series of gaming laptops that sits below the Omen. In contrast to Omen, the Victus series has a less appealing design but solid internals and reasonable pricing.

TOP FEATURES

  • Reliable performance
  • Decent display
  • Good battery life

One of these is the Victus 15, which now has new internals. It comes in two flavors Intel and AMD and NVIDIA are in charge of jobs requiring a lot of graphics.

The one we have is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor and an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. Here is our review of HP’s latest, reasonably priced gaming laptop, the Victus 15, after trying it for a few weeks. HP Victus 15 Reviews 2022: Affordable Gaming Laptop Right

DRAW UP AND BUILD

The outside has not changed, however, the interior has been modernized. The Mica Silver color, which is essentially dark grey with a matte finish, is available on this year’s Victus 15, which shares the same chassis as the previous model. A different color scheme with a hint of blue is called Performance Blue and is exclusive to the Intel version. Near the hinge on top, there is a large “V” with the word “Victus” imprinted on it.

The Victus 15 appears to be quite convenient at first glance because it is a 15.4-inch laptop, but as soon as you hold it, you realize just how convenient it is. The Victus 15 weighs 2.29 kg, which makes it a touch too heavy to qualify as a portable machine. Therefore, it is best to keep in mind that it is not for those who wish to carry it around with them.

Affordable costs are accompanied by a less-than-premium build. That may not be the case for every product, but the Victus 16 certainly fits the bill. The edges are excessively sharp, and the plastic doesn’t feel premium. The display is so thin that it wobbles when you type with strong hands, and the hinge mechanism is one of the worst we have ever seen.

The keyboard deck feels solid in the meantime, but if you press down hard enough, you may feel some flex. Instead of speakers, you will see an air intake grille just above the keyboard. Another sizable outtake vent is located at the bottom.

There are sufficient ports for everyone’s needs in terms of ports. A pair of USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports are located on the left edge, and the right size accommodates the majority of ports, including a round barrel charging port, an Ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port (with DisplayPort 1.4), a 3.5mm audio combo jack, and a full-size SD card reader.

AUDIO AND VIDEO

If you plan to do any creative task, such as photo or video editing, do not because it is not made for that since it only covers 46% of the NTSC color gamut. However, for casual ones, the display works okay. It is as good as what others have to offer in this price segment. The 15.4-inch display on the Victus has an FHD+ resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz. It is vibrant enough and even bright at 250 nits.

TRACKPAD AND KEYBOARD

A big complaint with the keyboard is that the backlighting is not adjustable and throws light at your face when it’s dark, making things uncomfortable. You get a full-size keyboard with a Numpad on the right side and a function row at the top. The experience with the keyboard was pleasant, with good key travel and response, but it took us some time to adjust to the keyboard.

People buying this will use a mouse anyhow, but the trackpad is huge and delivers decent haptic feedback, and it works fine for casual surfing.

PERFORMANCE

The Victus 15’s internal hardware includes an 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800H processor from team red, as well as an integrated Radeon 680M GPU and a dedicated Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, for handling graphics.

The Victus 15 comes pre-installed with 512GB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD, which is not much considering it is a gaming machine, but it is good to have second-generation storage in an affordable machine while not even the most expensive one has it. The unit we had with us came with 8GB of DDR5 RAM; there is also a 16GB RAM model, and if you want, you can have up to 32 GB.

The laptop performed well during our day-to-day tasks, even when we had more than a few Chrome tabs open and a few apps running in the background, and the Ryzen 7 5800H scored 9824 points in multi-core and 1303 points in single-core tests in the Cinebench R23 benchmark. However, we suggest going for the 16GB RAM model, or if you are purchasing the 8GB model, you can install extra RAM to get the most out of this machine.

The GPU is good for 1080P gaming, and even many AAA titles run smoothly at medium to low graphics settings, delivering around 60-70 fps on average. Also, the Victus tends to stay cool even under pressure, so you won’t have to worry much about heating during the prolonged duration of gaming. Nvidia’s RTX 3050 Ti does not disappoint either when it comes to gaming or other graphic-intensive tasks.

BATTERY

This year’s Victus has the same 70WHr battery as last year’s model, but thanks to improved CPU efficiency, the laptop lasts about 5-6 hours on a typical workday, which includes browsing Chrome, writing, and watching an episode or two of TV shows. Meanwhile, the laptop survived for an hour and a half on a single charge while playing Apex Legends.

VERDICT

The hardware is ideal for anyone looking for a slightly heavy but portable gaming machine on a budget; however, the hinge could definitely get better. HP’s new Victus 15 is essentially the same as last year’s model with the same chassis but better internals. It could be one of the options to look out for if you are buying a new “gaming” laptop for your college or work.
