Expertise / Search

Ranking is not
the finish line.

An answer now sits above the results, assembled by a model that chose which sources to trust. Ranking first underneath it is worth less every quarter. The work has changed, and most agencies have not changed with it.

01 / The problem

Two competitions, not one.

You are now competing in two places at once. The traditional results page, where position still matters and clicks still happen. And the generated answer above it, where a model decides which handful of sources to synthesise and cite.

They reward overlapping but different things. The results page rewards relevance, authority and intent match. The answer layer rewards clarity about what you are, consistency of facts across the web, structured data a machine can parse without guessing, and being quotable on a specific question.

A site can rank well and never be cited. A site can be cited constantly and sit at position eight. Optimising for one while ignoring the other leaves money on the table.

Zero-click behaviour is the part that hurts. More searches resolve without anyone visiting a website at all.

That makes the clicks you do get more valuable, and makes conversion work part of SEO rather than separate from it.

02 / Approach

Foundations, then entity clarity.

Technical first, because content on a page that cannot be crawled, rendered or indexed is content that does not exist. Crawl budget, render behaviour, canonicals, redirects, status codes, Core Web Vitals, internal link architecture.

Then entity clarity, which is where most of the AI visibility work actually lives. Being unambiguous about who you are, what you do, where you operate and what you are an authority on, expressed consistently in your content, your structured data and your presence elsewhere on the web.

Then content built against genuine demand and genuine expertise. Pages that answer a real question better than the alternatives, written by someone who knows the subject, not assembled to hit a word count.

We will tell you when a page should not exist. Thin pages built for search volume are a liability under current spam policy.

We will also tell you when your problem is conversion rather than traffic, which it frequently is.

03 / What you get

Deliverables.

Technical audit and fixes

Crawlability, indexation, rendering, canonicals, redirects, status codes, speed and architecture. Fixed, not just listed in a spreadsheet.

Keyword and intent mapping

Terms clustered by what the searcher actually wants, each cluster mapped to one URL so your own pages stop competing with each other.

Entity and AI visibility work

Structured data, consistency of business facts across the web, and content shaped to be quotable by a model answering a specific question.

Content production and refresh

New pages where there is genuine demand, and rewrites of existing pages that are close but not winning. Nothing published that we would not stand behind.

Internal linking

Link equity routed to the pages that carry commercial value, with anchors that describe the destination.

Reporting against baseline

Qualified organic enquiries, measured against the figure recorded before we started, with the date of every change logged so its effect can be isolated.

04 / Method

How the work runs.

I

Baseline

Current rankings, current organic enquiries, current technical state, and where you presently appear in AI answers for the questions that matter. Recorded before anything is touched.

II

Fix

Technical faults first. There is no point optimising a page the crawler cannot reach.

III

Clarify

Entity work and structured data, so both search engines and models understand without guessing.

IV

Build

Content and internal links, in priority order of commercial gap closed rather than ease of production.

V

Compound

Monthly reporting in absolute numbers, with every change dated so cause and effect stay legible.

05 / Manchester

Manchester search, specifically.

Manchester is a compact, dense market and that shows up in the search results. For most commercial terms the same twelve to twenty firms appear again and again, many of them with a decade of links and a page built for the exact phrase. Turning up with a general services page and hoping is not a plan.

What works here is narrowing. A page that targets the specific service and the specific city, written properly rather than spun from a template, will outrank a broader page from a stronger site more often than people expect. The sector pages that beat us today mostly win on age and links, not on being better written, and that is a gap that closes with patience.

The second thing that works in this city is the blend of local and national. Plenty of Manchester businesses sell across the UK, so chasing only the city terms leaves most of the demand untouched. We usually build the local page first because it converts hardest, then widen.

Dense market, compact geography.

The local term converts best. The national term is where the volume is.

06 / Questions

Straight answers.

How long does SEO take?

Technical fixes can show within weeks. Content and authority compound over months. Anyone quoting you a fixed timeline for a specific position is guessing, because they do not control your competitors. We would rather show you the weekly position data and the enquiry numbers.

Is SEO dead because of AI?

No, but the shape of it has changed. Fewer clicks reach you for informational queries. Commercial queries, where somebody is choosing a supplier, still produce clicks and still produce revenue. The work shifts towards being the source a model trusts, and towards converting the visitors who do arrive.

How do I get cited in AI Overviews or ChatGPT?

There is no submission form and nobody can guarantee it. What demonstrably helps is clarity about your entity, consistency of your facts across the web, structured data that matches your visible content, and genuinely authoritative answers to specific questions. We work on all four and track where you currently appear.

Should I just publish more content?

Usually not. Most underperforming sites have too many thin pages rather than too few pages. Publishing more of the same compounds the problem and is explicitly targeted by current spam policy. We often start by merging or removing.

Can you guarantee first position?

No, and an agency that does is either misleading you or planning something that will eventually get you penalised. We can show you where you are, what the gap is, and what closing it requires.
